| | Day 1: FORT SMITH, AR / DINNER / THE MUSICAL COMEDY, “THE MEDICINE SHOW ON HANGING DAY”: -- Making our way west we come to the once boisterous border town of Fort Smith. After dinner (included) we will be entertained by Miss Laura’s Players in “The Medicine Show on Hanging Day” a musical/comedy. Fort Smith is our first overnight, a fitting beginning to a western adventure even in this century. (D) |
| Day 2: OKLAHOMA / THE CHISHOLM TRAIL / DODGE CITY, KS: -- As we cross Oklahoma on our way to the great plains of Kansas, you can imagine the wagons and mounted horses lined up along the border getting ready to start the great “Oklahoma Land Rush of 1893”. By noon we are on the Chisholm Trail where over five million Texas Longhorn Cattle were driven north to Kansas to be shipped east by train to the Beef Markets in Chicago and New York. We will hear the fascinating story of these cattle drives and the making of the American Cowboy. Dodge City was the most notorious train terminal destination for these Cow pokes and it is also our home for the next two nights. (B) |
| Day 3: SANTA FE TRAIL / QUEEN OF THE COWTOWNS / FORT DODGE / BOOT HILL / FAMOUS LAWMEN OF THE WEST / DODGE CITY, KS: -- Today we get a look at how the West was won, from Fort Dodge to the ruts of the Santa Fe Trail to the taming of the Wild West town of Dodge City by famous Lawmen like Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson and Doc Holiday. We visit Home of Stone the first mansion on the prairie and Boot Hill, the final resting place of those who tested the authority of the local Sheriff. We will belly up to the original Bar of the Old Long Branch Saloon and order a sarsaparilla made famous by the TV series, Gunsmoke. Dinner is Western style followed by entertainment from Miss Kitty’s Can-can dancers at the Long Branch. (B, D) |
| Day 4: COLORADO / ROYAL GORGE: -- This morning we continue westward along the Old Santa Fe Trail. Soon we see the mountain vistas of Colorado rising in the distance. The Trail later became part of the longest interstate road system crossing the country in the 1930’s; US Hwy 50 will be our route for the next two days. After lunch, we continue to Royal Gorge Bridge, the world’s highest suspension bridge. Built in 1929, the one-lane toll bridge spans Royal Gorge and is 1,053 feet above the Arkansas River. (B) |
| Day 5: BLACK CANYON ON THE GUNNISON / DINNER / OURAY, CO: -- Colorado’s spectacularly rugged grandeur is breath-taking. Traveling across the Continental Divide and the Colorado Rockies, we visit Black Canyon on the Gunnison. The canyons are famed for narrowness, great expanses of sheer granite walls, and rugged gorge formations. Our accommodations are in Ouray, once a booming mining town; today, the "Switzerland of America." Dinner is included. (B, D)
|
Day 6: SILVERTON, CO / DURANGO, CO / MESA VERDE NATIONAL PARK: -- Excitement abounds as we travel the “Million Dollar Highway” through the Switzerland of the Rockies. We will stop in Silverton and Durango for sightseeing and browsing on our way down the “River of Lost Souls” Gorge. We overnight in Mesa Verde National Park. (B)
 |
| Day 7: MESA VERDE NATIONAL PARK / MONUMENT VALLEY / DINNER: -- The cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park have been heralded by Conde Nast Traveler as the “number one historic monument in the world.” National Geographic Traveler declared this area one of the “50 Places of a Lifetime - Greatest Destinations.” After a morning touring the Cliff Dwellings and ruins, we continue to Monument Valley, the backdrop for numerous Western movies. (B, D) Option: Add Jeep Tour of Monument Valley & Navajo Cookout. |
| Day 8: PAGE, AZ / GLEN CANYON DAM / LAKE POWELL / KANAB, UT: -- We continue to Page, home of the Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River. The dam forms Lake Powell, a 186-mile long dazzling blue oasis in the middle of the desert. A special lunch and a tour of Glen Canyon Dam are included. We stay two nights in Kanab. (B, L) |
| Day 9: GRAND CANYON NORTH RIM / LUNCH / KANAB, UT: -- We arrive at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The endless colors spread to the far horizons in ever-changing waves of gold, crimson, blue, and lavender sandstone. Many people consider this section of the Grand Canyon the prettiest. After an included lunch in the Lodge Dining Room, we depart north-bound across the Kaibab Plateau to Kanab for our overnight. (B, L)
|
| Day 10: ZION NATIONAL PARK / BRYCE CANYON / CHUCK WAGON COOK-OUT / RUBY’S INN, UT: -- Zion National Park was to the Mormon pioneers a haven of beauty resembling natural temples; they called it, “Little Zion.” The soaring towers and monoliths suggest a quiet grandeur. After seeing one of the park’s more noted landmarks, the Temple of Sinawava, a natural amphitheater surrounded by pink cliffs, we exit the park by way of the scenic Mt. Carmel Highway. We continue to Bryce Canyon National Park. Bryce has its own brand of unique beauty featuring weird-looking formations known as hoodoos. From the rim drive, the oddly shaped rocks and cliffs resemble castles, animals, people, and houses. What better way to top off an exciting day than with a delicious chuck wagon dinner and evening of western fun. (B, D)

|
| Day 11: ARCHES NATIONAL PARK / GRAND JUNCTION, CO: -- Traveling eastward, we arrive at Arches National Park, a preserve of over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, like the world-famous Delicate Arch, as well as many other unusual rock formations. The extraordinary features of the park create a landscape of contrasting colors, landforms and textures that is unlike any other in the world. We overnight in Grand Junction. (B)
|
| Day 12: DENVER, CO / LUNCH AT WHITE FENCE FARM / THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN: -- We pass through Glenwood Springs where Doc Holliday, the dentist of the O. K. Corral, is buried. Lunch in included at White Fence Farm, one of Denver’s unique dining experiences. Be sure to visit the Water Sidewalk and American Barn while here. After visiting the home of the Unsinkable Molly Brown, we continue traveling east. (B, L) |
| Day 13: NEBRASKA / GREAT PLATTE RIVER ROAD ARCHWAY / ARBOR DAY FARM / LIED LODGE: -- Nebraska was once called “Great American Desert.” Today it has become a manufacturing and farming mainstay of America. Traveling along the Platte River, we arrive at Great Platte River Road Archway Monument, a monument to Nebraska and the Platte River Valley's role in westward expansion. Lied Lodge, our home for the night, is a nature-inspired resort nestled on the 260-acre Arbor Day Farm. Here, we enjoy the Tree Adventure tour that puts you in the midst of both the grand majesty and the up-close excitement of nature. After a tram tour through woodland trails across the historic Farm, we will enjoy a delicious included dinner. (B, D) |
| Day 14: ST CHARLES, MO / MOTHER-IN-LAW HOUSE: -- Today we enter Missouri on our way to St. Charles, our last overnight stay. This evening we browse the quaint shops in historic Old Town before a wonderful farewell dinner at Mother-in-Law House. (B, D) |
